Fun Fall Workshops

Learn new creative skills and make unique projects with local artist instructors at fun workshops at the Chippewa Valley Museum in Eau Claire's scenic Carson Park this fall. Saturday, September 24 or Saturday, October 22, 12:30-4:30 pm:  Thunder Gourds with Dorothy Huse. Create a unique decorative piece that produces sound. Embellish a gourd with wood burned designs and color, then assemble the sound mechanism. Open to adults and children ages 10 and older with adult supervision. $32 for museum members or $37 for non-members. Additional kits available for $25 each.

Saturdays, October 1, 15 & 22, 1-5 pm:  Braided Wool Rugs with Beverly Ramey. Learn the skills needed to create a beautiful braided wool rug, including preparing the materials and getting started, braiding, lacing, and finishing the rug. Have a good start on a small rug by the end of the series. Participants must be age 12 or older and know how to thread a needle. $30 for members, $35 for non-members, $15 for past students. Wool kits available for an additional $25. Register by September 26th.

Sunday, October 2, 2-4 pm:  Van Gogh's Starry Night with Cyndi Kortbein from The Paint Shack. Create your own interpretation of Van Gogh's classic "The Starry Night" following step-by-step instructions to complete your very own masterpiece by the end of class. All materials provided. No experience needed. $30 for CVM members, $35 for non-members.

Tuesdays, October 4 & November 1, 22, 6:30-7:30 pm:  Tribal Arts with Dick Mindykowski. Learn about Ojibwe culture and traditions, trapping and tanning techniques, and methods used to hand-harvest wood and other natural materials from a Lac Courte Oreilles tribal member and artist. Attendees will have the opportunity to purchase artwork or customize a walking stick project. Projects are $15 per small (4 feet and under) or $25 per large (4+ feet) and include all materials.

Sunday, October 23, 12-5 pm:  Barn Quilts with Mary Felton-Kolstad and Janine Thull. Design and paint a warp-resistant 2x2' wooden square to adorn your home, barn, shed, fence, or garden. All materials provided. Open to adults and children ages 7-15 with adult supervision. $50 for CVM members, $55 for non-members. Register by October 14.

Tuesdays, October 25 & November 1, 6-8 pm:  Inkle Weaving Workshops with Lucianne Boardman. Create a long strap of colorful fabric suitable for multiple uses, including a draped dowel wall-hanging, bracelet, or bookmark. Great for beginners as well as those with prior weaving experience. All materials provided. Open to adults and children ages 7-15 with adult supervision. $30 for CVM members, $35 for non-members.
