Making Meaning | Students, Objects, and Curation

Every artifact leads its own life, intersecting with the many people who built, bought, sold, or salvaged it. Every artifact has many meanings. One object can tell a story about love or about war or even about growing up. Objects have many tales from their long, rich lives but today — for you — each object will only tell one story.

Students from the University of Wisconsin–Eau Claire selected these artifacts from the collections of the Dunn County Historical Society and the Chippewa Valley Museum. They matched their selections into imaginative sets and created these exhibits over the course of a semester. The stories in these exhibits are the meanings that these student-curators decided to make — for you.
