Spring Folk Art Fun

Intermediate Woodcarving

Sundays, February 28 and March 6 & 13, 2:00-4:00 pm

Guest instructor Ron Mastrobuoni of the Chippewa Valley Woodcarvers Guild returns to offer this three-part series on intermediate carving. Learn the cuts needed to make a functional and decorative snowman toothpick holder. All project materials are included, along with some extras and ideas for painting your carving, if time permits. Each student will also receive a Murphy knife and pair of carving gloves. Open to adults and children ages 13 and older with adult supervision. $35 for CVM members, $40 for non-members. Advance registration is required, as class size is limited to 10 students.

Rug Hooking

Tuesday evenings, March 1, 8, 15, 22 & 29, 6:00-7:30 pm

Join McGown Certified instructor Dorothy Huse for a brand new series featuring this popular folk art medium. Over the course of the series, participants will learn to rug hook by making a decorative mirror holder suitable for framing. Advanced registration is required, as space is limited to 15 people. Students are asked to bring their own hook, frame, and scissors, if they have them. Otherwise, these items will be provided by the instructor. Cost for CVM members is $50, or $55 for non-members. This project is supported in part by a grant from the Wisconsin Arts Board, with funds from the State of Wisconsin and the National Endowment for the Arts.

Rosemaling

Saturdays, March 5 & 19, 1:30-4:30 pm

Try your hand at this traditional Norwegian folk art. Learn the proper brush strokes and techniques for painting a small woodenware plate in the Rogaland style with instructor Edith Kling at this two-part workshop. All supplies and materials provided. Open to adults or individuals age 13 and older. Advance registration is required, as space is limited to 12 people. Cost is $25 for CVM members, $30 for non-members.
