Learn new creative skills and make unique projects with local artist instructors at fun workshops at the Chippewa Valley Museum this fall. Class sizes are limited and advance registrations are required. Contact Karen Jacobson at 715-834-7871 or k.jacobson@cvmuseum.com for more information or to register.

Saturday, September 16, 12:30-4:30 pm:  Thunder Gourds with Dorothy Huse. Create a unique decorative piece that produces sound. Embellish a gourd with wood burned designs and color, then assemble the sound mechanism. Open to adults and children ages 10 and older with adult supervision. $32 for museum members, $37 for non-members. Additional kits available for $25 each.

Tuesdays, September 19 & 26, 6-8 pm:  Inkle Weaving with Marcella Edmund. Create a long strap of colorful fabric suitable as a wall-hanging, bracelet, or bookmark. Great for beginners as well as those with prior weaving experience. All materials provided. Open to ages 16 and older, or children ages 7-15 with adult supervision. Advance registration is required, as space is limited to 7 people. $35 for museum members, $40 for non-members.

Tuesdays, October 3 & 10, 6-8 pm:  Pin Loom Weaving with Marcella Edmund. Learn to design flat, smooth fabric squares on a portable hand loom. Single swatches are ideal for making coasters and multiples can be sewn together for larger projects. All materials provided. Open to ages 16 and older, or children ages 7-15 with adult supervision. Advance registration is required as space is limited to 7 people. $35 for museum members, $40 for non-members.

Saturdays, October 7, 14, 21 & 28; 1-4 pm:  Rug Braiding with Beverly Ramey. Learn the skills needed to create a braided wool rug and have a good start on a small rug by the end of the workshop series. Participants must be age 12 or older and know how to thread a needle. Advance registration required. $30 for museum members, $35 for non-members, $15 for past CVM students. Attend one to four sessions as desired. Use your own wool for the project, or purchase a wool kit for an additional $25.

Tuesdays, October 10, 17 & 24, 6:30-7:30 pm: Ojibwe Walking Sticks with Dick Mindykowski. Create a personalized walking stick and explore Ojibwe culture and traditions with artist and Lac Courte Oreilles member Dick Mindykowski. Learn about trapping and tanning techniques, as well as the methods used to hand-harvest the wood and other natural materials. $20 per small walking stick (4 feet and under) or $30 per large (over 4 feet). Advance registration is encouraged. Open to ages 13 and older, or 12 and under with adult supervision. Families welcome. This project is supported in part by a grant from the Wisconsin Arts Board, with funds from the State of Wisconsin and the National Endowment for the Arts.
