CVM Closed for Construction

Posted: December 3, 2013

The Chippewa Valley Museum will be closed to the public for a few weeks this winter to spare visitors from the dust of a major interior construction project.

From Monday, December 23, through Monday, January 13, CVM will keep its doors closed to the public as a construction crew begins a major interior renovation project in the Museum's entry way and two major exhibit galleries.

The construction project is one of many phases of a major exhibit overhaul at CVM. A new exhibit called "Intersections" is set to replace CVM's 20-year-old exhibits "Paths of the People" and "Settlement and Survival." "Intersections" will combine stories from the previous two exhibits with additional stories uncovered in the last 20 years of learning, collecting, and re-examining the history of the Chippewa Valley.

The "Intersections" story begins before Europeans came to the region, brings the history up into the 2000s, and examines how many groups interacted: Ojibwe and French, workers and owners, German and Norwegian, children and adults, new immigrants and established residents, men and women. "Intersections" is set to open to the public in July 2014.

The Museum will resume regular hours of operation following the construction phase on Tuesday, January 14.
