Old-Fashioned Ice Cream Parlor

Inside the Chippewa Valley Museum, families can order ice cream sodas made just as they were in Grandma's day. The museum's working ice cream parlor, which seats about 25, sports a marble-topped soda fountain.

The soda fountain was originally owned and operated by Dor Smith in Eau Claire from 1895 to 1924. In 1924 Alf Bjerke purchased it and moved it to his drug store in Fall Creek. The Bjerke family donated the marble fountain to CVM in 1979. more...

Kate Aitken's Dollhouse


dollhouseThe more you look, the more you see as you peer into this miniature fantasyland. The dollhouse is eight feet long, four feet high, and has 21 rooms. There are 86 electric lights in the house, but no one has taken on the formidable task of counting all of the furnishings.

Each Christmas, the house is decorated for the holidays. Kate Aitken, a prominent physician in Eau Claire for many years, donated the house to the museum. more...

Museum Store


Books -- including books from our own CVM Press -- gifts, greeting cards, postcards, and crafts -- all with a local flavor -- are available in CVM's Museum Store. The store is open during regular museum hours and, if you're just out shopping, admission to the store-only is free. CVM Press books are also available by mail.
