Field Trips to the Chippewa Valley Museum

As hundreds of groups tour the accredited and award-winning museum each year, school children discover the exciting and intertwining stories of the people, places, and events that shaped this region of Wisconsin.

Last year, more than 6,000 children came to CVM and received 10,000 hours of service. The museum hosted elementary, middle, and high school groups; home school and scouting groups; university groups; and more than two dozen multi-age groups.

CVM offers classroom groups and other field-trippers a wealth of learning experiences. Among them:

The Chippewa Valley Museum will build a tour to fit your needs. Tours run in hour-long units — during a unit, your class might explore one subject, or two, or even three, from the list below, depending on your interests and the size of your school group. All tours, no matter how they are designed, are curriculum-based and led by trained museum docents. You are not limited to one hour, however: Many classes stay for more than an hour, and take in a variety of activities and learning experiences.

Tours begin promptly at 9:30, 10:45, 12 noon, or 1:15. Cost is $2.00 per student per hour-long unit.
Teachers should call the museum for a list of options and to make reservations.

Give your students the chance to truly travel back in time, by teaching them in the one-room Sunnyview School, which is located adjacent to the museum.

Reservations are for 2 to 2 1/2 hours (morning or afternoon) during the warmer months. Class size is limited to 30. Cost is $2.00 per student. A booklet with the history of the school and teaching tips is available for $3.00.

History kits, a great way to bring the Museum to your classroom, are available for check-out at a modest price. Follow this link for more info.

To schedule tours, call Karen DeMars at the Museum, (715) 834-7871 or email karend@cvmuseum.com. The Chippewa Valley Museum is open year ’round. Tours and programs may be scheduled Monday through Friday.
