Volunteers

288 people of all ages (age 13 through 90) volunteered more than 10,000 hours last year.

The museum relies on volunteers in these important areas:

•  Visitor Services — Front Desk, Museum Store, Ice Cream Parlor, and staffing historic buildings
•  Public programming — helping with events and programs for adults and children
•  Marketing — everything from putting together mailings to designing surveys to web mastery
•  Design — several tasks, from scanning photographs to building exhibits
•  Curatorial — cleaning and categorizing artifacts, database work
•  Library — original research cataloguing items, cross-referencing, database work
•  Education — Specially trained volunteers who teach at the museum are called docents. Learn more >>

Training is provided, and shifts are flexible and mainly short.

Our Thursday Circle crafting group makes and sells craft and clothing items. Last year, their efforts netted $3,000 for the benefit of museum programming.

We also have a group of Shop Guys who work on carpentry, painting, metalworking and other tasks. They're always looking for fun-loving folks to join the group.

Last year, 26 teenagers contracted with the museum as Teen Guides during the summer months. Collectively, they worked at least 567 hours staffing the School House and Log House as well as providing support for design, education and programming. Learn more >>

The museum hosts its annual Fourth of July Family Fair with the help of 80-some volunteers. Last year, the volunteer efforts (along with perfect weather) assured a good time for 2,065 Family Fair guests.
