School District 8, in the Town of Washington, Eau Claire County, had a school as early as 1872. Some sources say the building, known as Happy Jack School, burned in 1881. Other sources say it was simply moved, rebuilt, and renamed Sunnyview School. From 1881, Sunnyview stood on the southeast corner of the junction of County Trunk Highways F and II in the Town of Washington, Eau Claire County, the school grounds carved from a 40-acre parcel owned by Peter Knehr. The building has two exterior doors, each of which leads to a small anteroom. In early days, these were used as cloakrooms, one for girls and one for boys. Later, children shared a cloakroom, and the extra room was used for storage. |
